The Power generated from the Power Station is supplied to Orissa Power Grid through 220 K.V. transmission system. Originally 533 K.M.s. of double Circuit 220 K.V. transmission lines were constructed from Balimela to Talcher through Theruvalli. Subsequently the 3rd, 220 K.V. circuit to Theruvalli was added. With the growth of Orissa Power Grid with added demand for power in subsequent years some modifications have been affected. Presently three 220 K.V. transmission lines from Balimela connected upto Theruvalli via 220 K.V. Sub-station at Bhanjanagar. From Bhanjanagar again double circuit 220 K.V. lines have been planned to Chandaka (near Bhubaneswar). One circuit has since been commissioned in the year 1989 and the second circuit will be commissioned subsequently. The extension of these 220 K.V. lines connecting to different 220 K.V. Sub-station has provided stability and additional benefit to the Orissa Grid for meeting the system demand.

A single circuit 220 K.V. line was also constructed from this Power Station to Upper Sileru Power Station of Andhra Pradesh State Electricity Board, (now Andhra Pradesh Generation Corporation). This 25 Kms. long single circuit transmission line not only serves as an inter-state line, but also as inter-regional grid line connecting Eastern and Southern Grids. In future it is likely that a second 220 K.V. circuit connecting both Balimela and Upper Sileru Power Stations may be required with the concept of Regional Grid operation and National Power Grid expected to materialise in the future years.

The commissioning of all the six Generating Units alongwith auxiliary and Switchyard equipments have been completed in full and the Power Station is performing satisfactorily. There were some apprehensions on the utilisation of high installed capacity provided in the Station. This Power Station is providing the necessary energy and peaking capacity as envisaged and now there is no room for any such past apprehensions. Moreover, there are plans to install two more Generating Units for peaking purpose for which erection activities have already started.
